Mfon Udoh of Enyimba FC and Emem Eduok of Dolphins have been hitting the headlines after both equaled the goal record held by Jude Aneke of the highest ever goals scored in a single Nigeria Premier League season on 20 goals.
Despite this duo's milestone, a goal keeper is also breaking records as he not only tend his goal post but also goes forward to get goals for his side in the Nigeria Professional Football League.
Here is a profile on Lobi Stars goal keeper, Terkaa Melai who is also busy scoring goals for his club in the current league season.
Terkaa Melai hails from Benue State where he had lived his life. He was born and brought up by his parents in Wannune Tarka LGA Benue State and attended his Primary and Secondary education there too. He also took up goal keeping because he felt he was talented in it.
At 19, Terkaa Melai has now become one of the revelations of the NPFL season for Lobi Stars, a club he came from the youth ranks.
Terka Melai has now set a new goal record in the Nigeria Premier League after he became the first goalkeeper to score seven goals in a single league season. Dele Aiyenugba, who scored thrice from the penalty spot for Enyimba in the 2004/2005 season, held the previous record.
Terkaa Melai scored his sixth goal of the season in a 2-0 win over Enugu Rangers in a Week 32 game. Then added his seventh just last weekend when they defeated Akwa United 1-0 in a week 36 league game that puts Lobi Stars 5th on the log with 56 points, 6 behind league leaders Kano Pillars with just two games to go.
The goalkeeper has scored all his seven goals from the penalty spot. The first of which he scored in a Week 3 home 2-0 win over Gombe United. He then was on target in a 1-0 win over Kaduna United in Week 5 and was the match winner in a 1-0 win over Nembe City in a Week 7 game.
He also added another in a Week 16 game, which Lobi won 2-0, before he again emerged match winner against Enyimba in a Week 28 game.
Sharks goalkeeper Danladi Isah has scored four goals so far this season, with a brace in the week 9 2-0 win over El Kanemi Warriors, becoming the first keeper to score a brace in the history of the League.
"I feel just normal like any other player or goal keeper in the league, because that is the dream of every player in the league to always do the best and leave the rest to God." Terkaa Melai said after one of his goals in the current league season with Lobi Stars.
Lobi Stars come up next against Bayelsa United away from home in the Week 37 round of matches, and if things turn out well for Melai, he might be adding to his current goal tally.
