Benitez Takes Charge At Real Madrid
Real Madrid confirmed the arrival of Spanish tactician, Rafa Benitez as the new manager of Los Blancos. The former youth team coach joins on a three-year contract after he brought his two-year stay at Napoli to an end.
In a rare show of emotion, Rafa Benitez vowed not to change his coaching approach and also promised to bring success to the Santiago Bernabeu; “The only thing that counts at this club is first, to finish second isn’t good enough... this is definitely the best squad [he’s had at his disposal], I’m sure if we all row in the same direction, we will have success.
Lucas Extends PSG Contract
The Brazilian joined Javier Pastore in signing a 2-year extension with the 3-time ligue 1 champions, ending speculation linking him with a move to the premier league with Man United rumoured to be one of his many suitors.
Lucas joined les Parisiens in January 2013 and has proven a key cog in their 3 title wins since. Speaking to the press, he said; “I am very happy. For me playing here is a source of great pride. I hope to continue helping my team win more and more trophies. My dream is to become a part of this club’s history”.
Robin Van Persie Admits Uncertainty On His Future
Robin van Persie has admitted he’s had to weigh up his future at Manchester United after a disappointing season which saw him score just 10 goals in 26 appearances. Van Persie is entering the final year of his 3-year contract at Old Trafford and has admitted to being unsure as to what happens next.
While preparing for the Netherland’s friendly against the United States, the Dutchman said; “It’s a strange, difficult situation. I have to think in a realistic way. The club is doing the evaluation as well; I must consider what I want as well. It’s my ambition to play the next years, I’m thinking about my family and children with every decision I take”.
Wilshere Charged For Spurs Jibes
The Football Association has decided to charge Jack Wilshere with misconduct, for his foul-mouthed tirade directed at Tottenham during Arsenal’s FA Cup victory parade.
Following the Gunners’ 4-0 over Aston Villa, which earned them their second FA cup in a row and a record 12th overall; the gunners conducted a parade of the trophy during which Wilshere grabbed a microphone and screamed;
“What do we think of Tottenham?”
The fans replied with “S***”, before Wilshere asked, “What do we think of s***?”
Supporters retorted with “Tottenham”.
Wilshere received criticisms for his actions, but later apologised on twitter. The FA however, took exception to the tirade and slapped him with a misconduct charge. He has until 6pm on June 10th to respond to the charge.
Hamilton seeking redemption after Monaco setback
Lewis Hamilton would be looking to perk up from a team error that hindered his chances of winning the Monaco GP last time out, as the Formula 1 season heads to Canada this weekend.
That error handed teammate, Nico Rosberg, a third straight win at the principality, reducing Hamilton’s lead atop the driver’s championships to 10 points in the process.
Hamilton however, is looking to erase the memories of that loss, and while speaking to the press in Canada, he was quoted as saying, “I think everything that needs to be said about Monaco has already been said. Obviously, it was a huge disappointment for me and also for the team, but we’ll learn from it and move forwards together like we always do.
Djokovic Ends Rafa Nadal’s 5 Year Reign In Paris
Novak Djokovic’s aspirations for a first Roland Garros title got a massive boost earlier today as the Serb totally outclassed Rafael Nadal 7-5 6-3 6-1.
The 9-time champion and holder of the Coupe des Mousquetaires in the last 5 editions had no answer to the dominant Serb who notched up his 27th straight win on tour as he inflicted only his 2nd defeat ever in the French Open.
Djokovic controlled the tempo of the game throughout against an uncharacteristically error-strewn performance from Nadal as he set up a semi final meeting with Andy Murray who had enough to see off David Ferrer 7-6 (7-4) 6-2 5-7 6-1.
