Kwasi Appiah, Head Coach of Ghana’s senior football team the Black Stars has been given the marching orders after a crunch meeting of the top brass of the Ghana Football Association on Thursday.
Reports quote a member of the GFA executive council; Fred Papoe as saying the decision to part ways with the coach was reached following his public disapproval of the FA's decision to hire a technical advisor for the team.
The FA had announced its decision to hire Serb trainer Milovan Rajevac as technical adviser to the coach but Mr. Appiah granted a radio interview in which he said he had not asked for a technical assistant, contradicting the position of the GFA.
“Kwasi Appiah didn’t want to go with the new direction of the FA about hiring a technical advisor,” Mr. Papoe is quoted as saying.
Other sources however suggest the decision is as a result of the team’s abysmal performance in the Nations Cup qualifiers against Uganda and Togo. Ghana drew 1-1 at home to Uganda and struggled to beat Togo 3-2 away in Lome.
