As much as I think Firmino is a good player who could be a success in the Premier League, I wonder is he really the player Liverpool need?
Liverpool have made it clear that Raheem Sterling is not for sale. Some fans may state that Firmino is a replacement for Sterling but I'm not sure that's the case.
Liverpool have turned down two big money moves for Sterling. If you either want to sell a player or are happy enough to let them go, you don't turn down that much money, especially for Raheem Sterling.
Even if they want to move Sterling on now, rejecting both of City's offers may lead to very few bids coming in for him. This could leave Liverpool with Lallana, Coutinho, Firmino, Ibe Sterling and maybe Markovic are all vying for attacking midfield positions.
It's clear Liverpool's problem last season was a lack of a proven goalscorer. Origi and Ings are both promising but cannot be relied on for consistent goals. Sturridge's injury problems are obviously well documented. The nearly £30million spent on Firmino could have been better spent on a goalscorer or even trying to bring in a top centre-back.
Firmino could end up being a revelation next season and I'm not denying that he's a good signing, but surely £30 million would be better spent in other positions.
