Flying Eagles star Kelechi Iheancho has expressed happiness after helping Manchester City win the Premier League International Cup on Friday evening.
The 18-year-old who joined Manchester City after the Under -17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates two years ago, scored the only goal against a very experienced FC Porto side as they won by 1-0 to hand gaffer Patrick Vieira his first managerial title.
'I feel great because it was a good experience playing in the Premier League International Cup for the first time and I scored the only goal that won the trophy. I thank God, ' he told City TV.
The Nigerian who showed great composure to score against the Portugal based team revealed why he rounded the goalkeeper instead of just placing the ball into the net from close range.
'I wanted to place the keeper but I noticed that the defender behind me was a bit far so I took a touch and finished,' he explained.
The 18-year-old has been tipped to do greater things in future and no other person knows this better than Manchester City's first team manager Manuel Pellegrini.
'He’s a very important player for us in the future. He demonstrated today what he can do in the future. It depends on the way he takes this profession, but I think he’s a good talent, ' Pellegrini told reporters after he watched Kelechi score for the the first team in pre-season.
Iheancho has now scored three times in four appearances for both City's U-18 and U-20 teams in just a week.
