Rafael may have played his last game for Manchester United after he cracked three ribs during the club's U21 clash with Leicester on Monday.
The Brazilian right-back is surplus to requirements and will be sold in the summer but was hoping to make a last-gasp claim to stay.
However, his damaged ribs are expected to rule him out for around six weeks, effectively ending his season. The 24-year-old was hurt by a stray knee from Leicester's Anthony Knockaert.
