The team bus of Kano Pillars, the Nigerian League Champions was robbed, and several players in a daylight robbery incident on Thursday.
The team was on the way from their base in Kano, Northern Nigeria, to honour a League match against Hertlans in Owerri, Eastern Nigeria.
The incident occurred in broad daylight near Lokoja. The mobile phones and the cash on the players and officials were taken, none of the officials were injured.
However, the players were not so lucky as star striker, Mohammed Gambo - who is a part of the home based National team - was injured.
Other players affected were Ubong Ekpai, Ibrahim Murtala, Eneji Otekpa and Ruben Ogbonnaya, with some believe to have been severely injured from gunshots fired into their vehicle.
The players are currently receiving treatment at Lokoja.
Pillars have just qualified for the next round of the CAF Champions League.
