- Manchester United will activate a one-year extension of Michael Carrick’s £130,000-a-week contract to keep the midfielder at Old Trafford beyond the summer. Carrick agreed to the clause when he signed a two-year deal in 2013 and has expressed a wish to stay.
- Chelsea have confirmed that striker Fernando Torres has been bought on a permanent basis by AC Milan - but will join Atletico Madrid on loan from January. Milan want to swap Torres for Atletico forward Alessio Cerci, who has agreed to the move after discussions on Saturday night.
- Arsenal are preparing to go back to Sporting Lisbon with a £20million offer for Portugal holding midfielder William Carvalho. Talks between the two clubs broke down in the autumn after Carvalho was valued at £30m by his Portuguese team.
- Manchester City continue to look in to the viability of signing Lionel Messi. A £200m transfer fee plus a gross package nearing £500,000 a week is obviously a massive obstacle. But City’s money men are still looking into how a deal could be calibrated, especially in the knowledge that tax implications could yet force Messi to leave Spain.
