The Nigerian duo of Vincent Enyeama and Ahmed Musa are still firmly in the race to become the 2014 CAF African Footballer of the year as they have made the final shortlist of five for the prestigious award.
The Super Eagles duo are being joined by the trio of Asamoah Gyan of Ghana, Gabonese, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and current holder Yaya Toure from Cote d’Ivoire who all made it from the intial shortlisted 25 players.
Nigeria was however not so lucky In the African Player of the Year (Based in Africa) category as the country’s sole candidate in the category Ejike Uzoenyo was omitted in the final five shortlisted players.
Those in the race are Akram Djahnit and El Hedi Belamieri of Algeria and ES Setif; Firmin Mubel Ndombe of Congo and As Vita; Fakhereddine Ben Youssef of Tunisia and CS Sfaxien and late Senzo Meyiwa of South Africa and Orlando Pirates.
CAF also released the top nominees for other categories and they include Annette Ngo Ndom of Cameroon, Asisat Oshoala of Nigeria and Rivers Angels, Desire Oparanozie of Nigeria and Guingamp, Portia Modise of Banyana Banyana, South Africa and Zenatha Coleman of Namibia for Woman Player of the Year.
For the Youth Player of the Year awar, Nigeria has the duo of Asisat Oshoala and Uchechi Sunday in contention, they are being joined by Fabrice Ondoa of Cameroon and Kader Bidimbou of Congo Brazzaville as nominees.
In the Coach of the year section , Florent Mbenge, Kherireddine Madoui of Algeria tops the list, others in the race are Rigo Gervais of Cote D’Ivoire, Stephen Keshi of Nigeria and Vahid Halilhozic of Algeria national team Other nominees are the trio of Algeria , Nigeria and Libya which were listed for National Team of the Year, Cameroon, Cote D’Ivoire, Nigeria and Nigeria U-20 for Women’s National team of the Year and Club of the Year with Al-Ahly of Egypt, As Vita of Congo, Es-Setif of Algeria and Sewe Sports of Cote d’Ivoire as nominees.
The Glo-CAF awards Gala night will take place on Thursday, January 8 in Lagos
