Marcos Rojo is facing up to three months out after picking up a shoulder injury during the derby defeat at Manchester City.
The Manchester United defender was carried off on a stretcher in the 56th minute of Sunday’s game after hurting himself while executing a sliding tackle.
Rojo’s prognosis doesn’t look good and the Argentine will be missing for at least six weeks.
Louis van Gaal confirmed that the 24-year-old had dislocated his shoulder and it had been clear he would be missed for some time from the offset.
‘The shoulder is out, you never know how long that will take, I have to wait until tomorrow [Monday] I think but he shall not play against Crystal Palace,’ Van Gaal said.
It leaves the manager’s defensive options in a state of disarray. Chris Smalling will be missing next week as punishment for his ‘stupid’ red card, while United do not know how long Phil Jones’ shin splints will keep him out for.
Jonny Evans is out with an ankle injury, too, meaning Van Gaal’s choices to face Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Saturday are sparse.
