Super Eagles captain and defender, Joseph Yobo is set to make his long awaited comeback in the March 5 international friendly match with Mexico in the United States, one of Stephen Keshi's top preparatory games ahead of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. And he stand a chance of captaining Eagles in the World Cup if he passes Keshi's tests.
The big question is: can Yobo make a difference and take over his position, and solidify the Eagles' backline?
Yobo has not played for the super Eagles since featuring sparingly at the 2013 AFCON in South Africa which Nigeria won? His widely publicized row with Keshi over non invitation after the Nations Cup did not help his cause till this latest call-up.
Many thought that Yobo had gone past his prime during the 2013 Nations Cup, but his impressive performances for his former club Fenerbahce, and now Norwich continued to make case for him, for a return to the national team.
Yobo was fantastic at Everton and he already looks like he’s striking up a good relationship with Sebastien Bassong.
He has helped keep clean sheets against Man City and Tottenham now and it’s those kind of performances and results that could be the difference between Norwich staying up or going down.
What is your opinion about Yobo's comeback? Can he plug any holes in the Eagles' defence and improve the team's performance? Could his taking over the captaincy from stand-in skipper, Vincent Enyeama better the lot of the national team?
Have your say now!
