Reigning African footballer of the year and Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure is among the three-man shortlist for the African Footballer of the Year award.
The Ivory Coast international is seeking to earn the accolade for a record-equalling third successive year after the Confederation of African Football cut the nominations list to three from 10 on Wednesday. The two players who miss out are Eagles winger Victor Moses and Ethiopia's Pitropia
However, Toure is facing competition from Galatasaray striker Didier Drogba and Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel in the final three.
The national coaches from all 54 African countries will be polled, and the winner of the award will be announced at a ceremony in Lagos, Nigeria, on Jan. 9.
If the City star is successful, he will join Abedi Pele and Samuel Eto'o in clinching the award three years on the trot.
Former Ghana international Pele won the award between 1991 and 1993, while Chelsea striker Eto'o was named Africa's best during the period of 2003 and 2005.
There is no outstanding football achievement for an African player this season, but Toure and Drogba helped Ivory Coast reach the 2014 World Cup finals, while Mikel was instrumental in Nigeria's Africa Cup of Nations triumph in 2013.
