After two weeks of international matches, the premier league will resume tomorrow. Some premier league players played crucial roles in the qualification of their countries for the world cup (like Gerrard, Rooney, Dzeko, Lukaku, Negredo and so on) and they will be looking forward to translating that same form to their various club sides. Here are 5 things to expect from this weekend’s fixtures
1. HIGH SCORING ENCOUNTER AT ST. JAMES PARK
Newcastle United vs Liverpool should be an enticing game as we have fond memories from the Reds' 6-0 win there.
Both sides can boast of having the two best forwards presently in the league (Sturridge 6 goals, Remy 5 goals). Suarez would be an interesting man to watch out for in the game with his 3 goals in 2 games coming with a 57% shot accuracy, and also red-hot Sturridge who had two goals in the same game last season.
For the toons, one man that has been doing the talking for them has to be French striker Loic Remy who has notched 5 goals already.
Newcastle have kept a clean sheet in 3 of their home games and if they can get to the halftime without conceding could positively move on from there as the Reds have only scored once in the second half this season. The SAS (Sturridge and Suarez) partnership Vs Newcastle’s Remy and Ben Arfa on the flanks. Expect loads of goals!
2. SOUTHAMPTON TO STUN DAVID MOYES?
Man United vs. Southampton. A clash between the Red devils and the Saints, 3 points would certainly be like a holy grail to both teams. Man Utd have not lost back-to-back home games since March 2002. The Saints currently occupy the desired fourth spot on the EPL table and would still find themselves ahead of Manchester United even though they lose the game. Moyes would be hoping to prevents goals against him as his team have already conceded 9 compared to the Saints who have the best defensive record in the league after conceding just two 2. Pochettino’s men have already shocked Liverpool at Anfield with a 1-0 win this season, could Old Trafford be the next?
3. A DIPLOMATIC DISPLAY FROM GUS POYET & SUNDERLAND
The newly appointed manager has already reached out to ousted Phil Bardsley and the backroom staff and while we might not be expecting fireworks from the manager it is a change of environment for the Black Cats and his post-media handling come win or loss would certainly be circumspect and if they can perform at the levels they reached against Man United might get a good win against Swansea City
4. MICROSCOPE LENS AND SPOTLIGHT VIEW ON TWO YOUNGSTERS
While their teams might have met before the international break, Andros Townsend and Ravel Morrison would be the players that would have the lights on them this weekend. With an impressive international spell with England and the U-21's respectively, Townsend and Morrison would be looking to continue their form in their burgeoning club careers
5. OZIL-CAZORLA PARTNERSHIP
The return of Santi Cazorla would make the Arsenal-Norwich game a mouth-watering event, eyes are on to see how Cazorla and Ozil would be able to join forces.
Both players were initially doubtful for the tie but have been declared fit by Arsene Wenger earlier today. Ozil currently leads the assists' ranking and has already created 16 scoring chances and with Ramsey and Girould looking sharper than ever might be having a fun weekend. Also Arsenal would be needing all the assistance they can get at the back as they have kept just 3 clean sheets in about 14 games and Norwich scoring in all their last 7 games against them.
