After Sir Alex Ferguson's post-match interview, an interview which Sir Alex clearly put the blame on him, few would have expected Nani to stay at Manchester United come the transfer window, but with another premiership medal, rumors of transfers to Real Madrid, Ac Milan, Arsenal, Monaco, Galatasaray, AS Roma, Juventus, and a possibility of him running out his contract, the winger has jut put penned a contract worth about £90,000k per week, a move to underline his importance to his(Moyes) plans. But is this a good move for David Moyes and Manchester United?
A lot of fans would argue it was probably time Nani saw the exit door for good in the last transfer window by securing a move to a team that is probably rebuilding. But if for anything, a lot of reasons tend to show that Moyes securing Nani for a couple of years might turn out to be one of the smartest things he would do in his United managerial career.
Nani needed something new, and with the surprise retirement of Sir Alex, previously, the best new the winger could have gotten was a new team, now he has the package of a new manager, there is no better time for the both footed player to strike while the iron is hot; he never had the trust of Ferguson and unfortunately cannot change that, it is true that mistrust cost him game time but this game time as well is something Nani believes Moyes would guarantee him. It should be remembered that Luis Nani's best season in a United Shirt came in 2010/2011 season, a season where he had 14 assists in the Premier League, this could be attributed to his regular appearances, a season where he had 49 appearances in total- his highest since turning Pro in a single season.
Luis himself has spoken on him needing a run of games to build his confidence and from last season that seemed to be true.
Ever since Cristiano's exit in 2009, the tough task was thrown at Nani in him filling the shoes of Ronaldo, Cristiano Ronaldo is up there with greatest players in Europe at the moment and arguably one of the Top 5 of all time to ever kick the round ball, to ask Nani to wear those same shoes is herculean and could fit perfectly well into another Tom Cruise's Mission Impossible sequel. Nani is a good player, at his best, a very good player, good, better, best?- he cannot go any further.
This season where the Old Trafford faithful have cried out in strengthening the current midfield, it would be criminal to let go of Nani if a better replacement would not be brought in. To highlight this, of the current wingers at Old Trafford, undoubtedly Nani stands tall amongst them, taking Ashley Young, Antonio Valencia, and perhaps Wilfried Zaha, Nani is the most talented one.
Valencia's drop in form last season was quite alarming, to think Valencia was a shadow of himself last season is quite petty, his predictability was at times quite embarrassing to watch, how he got selected ahead of Nani based on those performances was quite mysterious.
Nani's unpredictability is one of his greatest strengths, he has been tagged as a 'poor decision maker' that flaw, surprisingly, is his greatest weapon, the decisions of having to pass when he is meant to shoot and doing the latter when the former is glaring makes him stand out, unlike Young and Valencia who are just facilitators to the team's play, Nani is a game changer. With the recent signing of Fellaini, Nani can unleash a whole lot of trickery in his arsenal, he can take more risks, having the confidence that his mistakes might not cost his team like SAF blatantly said he did.
Manchester United have done a good job of keeping Wayne Rooney and the striker has hit the ground running with his performance against Chelsea, it is not coincidence that one of Rooney's best seasons at OT came in the same season where Nani had his best.

Nani And Rooney Celebrate After The Famous Volley Against Man City in 2011 |
Rooney wants to be the leading image at United, get the goals and be back in the headlines for the right reasons; Nani could play a major role in the strikers rise from the ashes. With Moyes style of play of having narrow wingers at Everton, Nani could just be another "Steven Pienaar" if given the chance.
On his day, the Portuguese winger could be a beast and an entertaining one at that, he could be beautiful and frustrating at times, one minute you love him and the next you wish he never left the shores of Portugal, to call him a see-saw player is not farfetched, at his highs you scream at the heights he could reach and at his lows you just have to kick yourself back up from the ground but in all, he is a brilliant player, there is a reason why clubs would like to have him, he could fit any direct-styled football team.
Nani might not be able to lead a team as a star player but he is undeniably a good role player who if given game time to do his roles could push Manchester United and David Moyes to a successful campaign. And come to think of it, is there anyone in United who could give us acrobatic goal celebrations at the moment?
It might just be early in Moyes' tenure but these kind of decisions that do not seem crucial could be the difference between the 'Yays and Nays' come the end of the season by those who look intensely to see how the gaffer would fare during the course of his first year.
