One transfer that seems to have slipped under the radar this summer is Sami Khedira leaving Real Madrid for Juventus.
Khedira's situation for the last year has baffled me. He was one of Germany's standout performers in the World Cup (including an absolute beast of a performance in the 7-1 defeat of Brazil) and was unlucky to be injured before the final.
Yet for the last year it seems that Real Madrid would listen to any reasonable offer for him. It seems no serious bids were forthcoming, even with his contract finishing he moved to Juventus with a minimum of fuss or seeming interest from any other top European clubs.
To be fair he had his share of injuries last season but that would be expected of a player returning so quickly from an ACL injury.
I would still rank him in the upper echelons of world midfielders and the fact that no premier league club was breaking down the door to sign him on a free has left me genuinely baffled.
Can anybody shed some light on this?
I would say that Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United and Liverpool are all in the market for a top class holding midfielder yet Khedira remains rejected and unloved; a midfielder entering what should be his prime forced to play for the Serie A champions. I know I know.
Obviously some other clubs were interested but, it seems that no club were breaking down the door to sign him when he has apparently been available all year.
